If you intend to be a big football fan, you should know the legendary names in sports history. These legendary athletes remain an inspiration not but only for football fans aspiring players and athletes in general. The Hall of Fame, selected annually by a committee in Canton Ohio, honors players and coaches who have made special contributions to football. Knowing the players and coaches past and present will give an appreciation deeper sport. Here are some of the contributors and most respected coaches in the history of American football.
Lance Alworth
The first AFL (American Football League), professional football player to be honored in the Hall of Famer Lance Alworth was one of the star players the San Diego Chargers, to join the team in 1961. He later played for the Dallas Cowboys in the last two years of his career. By the time he retired, that had caught 542 passes and ran for a whopping 10,266 meters.
Bill Dudley
Earning the nickname "the bullet" during his days student at the University of Virginia, Bill Dudley famous has never achieved its objective. In 1942, he was invited to join the Pittsburgh Steelers in his first season, was named Rookie of the Year. Bill Dudley was drafted into the armed forces during World War II, but returned in 1945, just in time for football season.
George Halas
Aptly nicknamed "Mr. Everything" for his many talents, George Halas became a football player known for the Chicago Bears well as a manager and coach of the Bears during his lifetime. Each year, the football teams compete in the NFC Championship for the George Halas Trophy.
Vince Lombardi
One of the most famous football coach of the sport's history, Vince Lombardi's Green Bay Packers brought in countless victories. Retiring as coach in 1968, was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1971. The most coveted prize in football, the Super Bowl trophy is named for him.
Walter Payton
Walter Payton drew the attention of important figures in professional football during his college days at Jackson State University, where he said that have found no help, 46 points in a game. During the 1975 draft, was invited to play the first round by the Chicago Bears. During his career of thirteen years, ran for a total of 16,276 meters, becoming the most successful runner in NFL history.
OJ Simpson
Born in 1947, Orenthal James Jones had a successful career college football, winning the Heisman Trophy in 1968 by the largest margin ever. In 1969, the first player to be drafted in the NFL and became one of the best runners in history. He was named NFL Player of the Year on four occasions, in 1972, 1973, 1975 and 1976. OJ Simpson retired and began his career as an actor and radio announcer and in 1994, was submitted and acquitted for the murder of his ex-wife Nicole and her friend Ronald Goldman.
