Manhattan New York – October 13, 2007 – Everyone at RM Smythe & Co., Inc. (http://www.smytheonline.com) will have a busy week starting October 29, 2007 in what can only be be described as a frenzied whirlwind of auctions. They offer an exciting suite of four in a row to include sales and coins and artifacts from a shipwreck, 1784 El Cazador 30 October, paper money and stock certificate to 31 October at 11AM EDT; points Schingoethe collection of obsolete Oct. 31 at 6 pm ET This and a mail-BID / live Internet auction of paper and ephemera on November 1 at 11AM EDT. All auctions will be held in the gallery RM Smythe auction in Manhattan.

In one week, four auction, whirlwind of over 5500 lots includes a fascinating combination of elements. Among the most notable deals are rare artifacts and coins recovered from the ship El Cazador (The Hunter). On 11 January 1784, the left Cazador de la Vera Cruz for New Orleans and the then Spanish Louisiana with 450,000 newly minted coins in his cellar. The task was to strengthen the local economy by retiring discredited Spanish currency, issued some 20 years earlier. The ship, its crew, and treasure that had vanished without a trace. Smythe & Co. offers 43 lots recovered from the wreck of the Hunter at its auction on 30 October. One of the most interesting include:

Lot # 1616 – 18th Century Spanish Bronze Cannon Loaded buttocks. Typically, 39 1 / 2 "long. The arms of Charles III of Bourbon at the top of the canyon. Violation cannons fired closing this block. Pindle minor damage. Nice surfaces with only traces of verdigris. One of only 40 guns were reported HUNTER. The fact that the breech block is present is simply amazing. Cannon weighs 200 pounds.

# 1578 -1872 (1782) Batch Mexico NCS 8 Reales, Transposed numbers Error dated 1872-FF (instead of 1782). KM-106.2, Carolus III, Mexico mint. otherwise unlisted. A sampling of inferior quality sold in '06 for $ 10,350 MCIC. Extremely rare.

Currencies clustered Lot # 1604 – "Clump" Cracked cannonball, but as a whole and "Base" in which are embedded several 8 Reales sized coins. 2 parts. 4 lbs, 4.5 oz

Sunken treasures, is not the only oddity in Smythe auction. During the same week, on 31 October # 274 Colonial and sale of historical documents has 24 lots, including those two treasures worth noting:

Lot # 2050 – Province of Massachusetts Bay Technology of 9 August 1773. 500 lbs. 5% Bond due 1775. Ornate border. Embossed seal. Signed by Samuel Adams, Thomas Cushing and James Pitts for the Committee. Double divided lightly engraved on the back. It is approved in the back by the owner, and no indication that interest was paid in 1774. VF. ($ 15,000-25,000)
This link is on the list of Anderson. Only four of these bonds are known to exist, two of which have been sold by Smythe & Co. in previous auctions. This example was issued before the Revolutionary era, when Harrison Gray Otis is still the treasurer of the colony. The match was witnessed by James Pitts and Thomas Cushing (1725-1788) Massachusetts merchant, member of Continental Congress, Colonial House spokesman, Signed etc. by Samuel Adams (1722-1803) signer of the Declaration of Independence, Continental Congressman, governor of Massachusetts, an opponent of British rule early and the Stamp Act. He designed the election of John Hancock, as head of the Patriotic Party, and later became the governor of Massachusetts himself. This is an extraordinary piece.

Lot # – 2062 Legendary scout and Indian fighter signs order treasury Daniel Boone Commonwealth of Virginia, December 22 1781. # 10201. Land-Office Treasury collection. 500 Acres/800 pounds. Issued to and boldly signed on the back of Daniel Boone. Unlisted in Anderson. Good, but in a tone of old. Broken folds have been repaired by experts. The ink is light with thin spot on the back of the document. Waived. ($ 10,000-20,000)
Daniel Boone (1735-1820), browser legendary Indian fighter and folk hero. Boone is most famous for his explorations of the border, paving the way for the settlement of the West. In 1775 Boone trailblazer desert road through the Cumberland Gap and into Kentucky, founding Boonesborough. He served as a militia officer during the Revolution, defending the western border. He was elected to three terms in the Virginia General Assembly. After the war Boone worked as a surveyor and merchant, but was deeply in debt as a land speculator. It lost much of their land because of squatters and conflicting claims. In 1799, frustrated with legal problems, Boone resettled in Missouri, He died at the age of 85.

In one week, four auction marathon is not limited to historical papers and artifacts from the wreck. Items attached includes the sale of obsolete notes selected from the Schingoethe collection to be auctioned on October 31 at 6 pm ET and more than 5,400 batches of the ancient coins, U.S. and foreign currency, notes and stock certificates that everything will go under the hammer on October 31 at 11AM EDT.
