The History Of The New England Patriots
The Pats are the team's favorite soccer professional sports fans in the Greater Boston area. It used to be called the Boston Patriots, but the owners changed the name in 1971 after the team moved to Foxborough, Massachusetts. The Pats have been around since 1959, when Boston Billy Sullivan was awarded the eighth and final franchise of the developing countries then the AFL. Fans were allowed zone submit suggestions for the new team name of the most popular choice was that Sullivan finally selected the Boston Patriots.
For the time No longer the Pats had a normal home stadium. They used Nickerson Field, Fenway Park, Harvard Stadium and Alumni Stadium, when they were part of the AFL. They had a season Winning in 1963 and played against the San Diego Chargers and lost 51-10. They do not make appearances after the season again for another 13 years.
In 1970, the NFL and AFL merged, and the Pats were placed in the AFC East division, where even today. It was the year after it moved to its new stadium in Foxborough, Mass., who was home for the next 30 years. 70 werent all bad years. They made the playoffs in 1976 and 1978 but lost both playoff games.
In 1985, the Patriots made the playoffs again and made it all the way to Super Bowl XX lost to the Chicago Bears a score of 46-10. They made the playoffs again next year and lost in the first round and would not be for another eight years before they reached the playoffs new.
The team has had several owners. Firstly the Sullivan family and later by Victor Kiam, then James Orthwein in 1992, who sold the team 2 years later the current owner Robert Kraft. Bill Parcells was hired in 1993 and made drastic changes to the uniforms of the Patriots. Their colors were changed the traditional white and red, silver and blue. At the same time, they got a new logo. Parcells took the Pats to two playoffs, including Super Bowl XXXI. Lost one to the Green Bay Packers, with a score of 35-21. Parcells's successor, Bill Belichick, also led the team to the playoffs twice. Bill Belichick was hired in 2000 and the team has its new home stadium in 2002, Gillette Stadium. The team went to three of four Super Bowls, under the direction of Belichick and finished the regular season 2007 with a perfect record of 16-0. Not bad for the team. By end 2007 with a record so perfect, he became the fourth team in league history unbeaten in the regular game and the only one since the NFL expanded the regular season schedule of 16 games.
The Pats have their share of football players Celebrity Hall of Fame. There is John Hannah, who was elected in 1991. He was with the Pats 1973-85. Then there was Mike Haynes, elected in 1997. He was with the Patriots from 1976-1982. Niche Buoniconti and Andre Tippett was elected in 2008 and 2001 respectively, and each team was with the 1982-93 and 1962-68.
Several team members have had their numbers retired. There was no easy task. They are Gino Cappelletti # 20, # 40, Mike Haynes, # 57, Steve Nelson, John Hannah # 73, # 78 Bruce Armstrong # 79 Jim Lee Hunt, # 89 Bob Dee.
New England Patriots have their own team of Hall of Fame was created in 1991. They have 13 players his team had been set between 1991 and 2001 and in 2007 three were selected.
