After the first quarter of the National Football League has been completed, fans can take a step back and examine the initial results. I've noticed some trends developing. The following are my observations, broken down by division.
American Football Conference, Eastern Division: Before quarterback Mark Sanchez finally played like a rookie, Jets fans were dreaming of a "Subway Super Bowl against their cross-town nemesis. Whether the loss, Jets still have a slight edge over New England, thanks to his victory in the second week. As it appears now, both the team went to the playoffs.
American Football Conference North Division: Without a clear favorite has emerged yet. Baltimore and Cincinnati are tied at 3-1, followed by Pittsburgh 2-2. One has to wonder if the Bengals can claim early success of the season in light of the recent years of failure. Also, the Steelers are just feeling the fallout from the hangover Super Bowl and will recover in time to compete for the division title? Will the Ravens offensive play consistently to support its continued domination defensive? This confusing picture needs more time to clarify.
American Football Conference South Division: At first glance, it seems Indianapolis Boise State and the rest of the division is imitating the rest of the Western Athletic Conference. Granted the Colts are bolts at the top of the AFC, however, Jacksonville is still within striking distance, thanks to a 2-1 record in division games. If the Colts stumbled down the stretch, while the Jaguars go on a winning streak, the match between these two, the seventeenth day of December could decide the division title. The Titans 10-0 start in 2008 it seems that ancient history given its 0-4 Start.
American Football Conference West Division: At this point, Denver would have to totally collapse not to win the division. Both Oakland and Kansas City are testing the patience of their fans and the sanity of the season ticket holders with their performances continued putrid, or seems willing to improved in recent years of ineptitude.
National Football Conference East Division: New York is leading the race early. Assuming that the Giants can avoid choking at home against Oakland, Week Six showdown with the undefeated New Orleans probably would give the winner of the tie of the two playoff seed. Philadelphia is in danger of losing ground during Donovan McNabb's injury. Let's find out if your bet by Michael Vick and his drafting of Kolb will pay fruits for the Eagles. Luckily, they have the games can be won easily in the next two weeks. The Cowboys and Redskins can still sneak back into the race, since they are only two games behind the Giants. However, both are plagued by the owners of meddlesome and tight control of their huge fan bases and impatient.
National Football Conference North Division: Minnesota seems to be about to pull more than the competition despite only one game ahead of the Bears second. Two victories in the division and to promote their cause. However, Chicago and Green Bay have the talent to make this a photo finish. I suspect that this race will be adjusted with the division not concluded until the last week of the season.
National Football Conference South Division: After only four weeks, half of this division and is looking forward to the project. New Orleans and Atlanta out Duke for the title. The New Orleans offense accelerated to full speed in the first two parties as it has since Drew Brees was in 2006. The reason behind their 4-0 start is on the defense, which no longer acts as a brake on their momentum. Surprisingly, Saints defense allowed no points in Buffalo and beat his offensive unit against the Jets. Falcons find themselves in a game and a half behind the Saints, but have an advantage over the Saints at this point: a victory in the division.
National Football Conference, Western Division: The Forty-Niners fans have woken in San Francisco of his decade long nightmare of irrelevance. Arizona is retreating to his eternal loser after last season's miraculous run to the Super Bowl. Seattle's performance have appeared almost as ugly as wearing fluorescent green T-shirt against the Seahawks St. Louis must request of the Canadian Football League for membership then let's winner Gray Cup will be held the Rams in this division. San Francisco will win the NFC West by default.
By Of course, projections are subject to change due to injuries and arrests of the players.
