So if Chuck Norris (PBUH) would beat up Mike Ditka, what would happen if he fought….?

all of the 1985 Chicago Bears? This would be WITHOUT the coaching staff. Keep that in mind.

did you know . . . President Truman decided to drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki because it was more humane than the alternative . . .

ESPN interview with Mike Greenberg

Northwestern University Medill School of Journalism, originally the title of one of the most prestigious journalism schools in the nation and home to the emergence of ESPN radio host and anchor, Mike Greenberg.

Before joining ESPN in 1996, Greenberg worked for CLTV in Chicago Local covering all Chicago sports anchor and sports broadcasting receiving a program Sunday night called SportsPage. He added to his career television and radio, working for the Chicago station WSCR and WMAQ radio, where he was able to cover events like the Super Bowl and World Series.

This New York Jet crazy radio announcer now works with Mike Golic, a former lineman in the NFL, the seat of one of the most talked about shows on ESPN and ESPN Radio, Mike & Mike in the Morning. His show attracts over three million listeners and brings in more than 90 million viewers.

This success led to opportunities such as being part of main broadcast team of the Arena Football League and broadcasting the second game of the week Monday Night Football doubleheader.

What follows is a collection of questions and answers from an interview given 25 minutes to Planet Blacksburg on what really makes "Greenie", "Greenie."

Q: When you attended the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, what type of student the media you involved in?

Greenberg: I was not around I want to participate as I had been in different activities. Now, when I was in school there was a mandated internship program and I did an internship at the Jackson City Patriot was a newspaper in Jackson, Michigan, but that was everything. I did not work for the student radio station or the role of students and greatly regret both.

Q: Can you describe one days normal working life of Mike Greenberg?

Greenberg: Well, today for example. I started at 3:45 am with my alarm ringing. I got up and came to work shortly after 5 am and Mike and I sat down to our staff and moved a couple of ideas. Then there were a few things that needed to pre-register for both the radio and television. After that, we did the show 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and then had a meeting SportsCenter just leave me now. We meet to discuss what is going to be on SportsCenter tonight. And then I will spend the rest of the day in writing before the SportsCenter anchor this afternoon 18:00 to 7:00 p.m. So I will leave seven in the morning and try to go to catch myself about six hours of sleep to be back tomorrow.

Q: How much work is involved in the management of a single event of "Mike & Mike in the Morning"?

Greenberg: That's hard to say. I think a good talk show never ends. The Most listeners know that Mike and I not only cover sports, but often we will discuss the events taking place in our daily lives. So, in some so you can say my life is preparation show. Without doubt, are aware of things. My work consists mainly of the things most people do do anyway. You know, watching games, watching SportsCenter, connect to the Internet and stay up to date with the news of the day, and listening on the radio. I think a good demonstration the talk is always looking for new material, and it really is, in a sense, a kind 24 / 7 job.

Q: What is your favorite subject to cover in sports?

Greenberg: Well, the National Football League is overwhelmingly the most popular sport in America and the largest number of people interested and passionate. Therefore, almost makes no difference what is my personal favorite sport to cover. But turns out I'm an avid golfer and a golf fanatic, so if it were me, I would be happy to talk about golf.

Q: You antics with former NFL lineman and Notre Dame graduate Mike Golic every day on his show, but in recent years, what have you truly learned from their counterparts?

Greenberg: Mike children are older than mine, and when we started our program, Mike was a father more than three times that I, and I still have not had either of my children. My two children were born since we started doing our show. What I learned from Mike above all is that he is a very dedicated father. There are a lot of people say they get their families first, but in reality it does. I mean, walking on foot. I admire you greatly. And consequently, I learned to do that and to understand why this is the correct way of doing things. We rejected a lot of opportunities that could have been good for us because of family obligations that one of us there was, and always understand that. So it is overwhelmingly the most important thing I learned from Mike. It has nothing to do with the show necessarily, but I think is a good lesson for all people who can not say you want to have a balance between work and life, but you have to really. I've learned that for sure.

Q: How do you handle all the criticism it receives?

Greenberg: It may sound ridiculous to say, but what they really are immune him. There is little criticism out there of us or me that I think is completely unfair. We work in a business very objective, so a persons opinion may well be that our show stunk today. My opinion is that our program today was very good. Now, the person who thinks our show stunk is not necessarily bad, it's just opinion. So while people are giving views on us that I think are fair, that just means things like "I think these guys suck" then no one bothers me. Now, if someone were to write in the paper that I was not ready, I was not working hard, or we were not trying, they really bother me. That would be stating a fact which I think is totally false. I think working so hard on our program as anyone out there in our business. There are certain people out there who do not like your approach and do not like his style. It's never fun to read that, but that comes with the territory, and certainly not the end of time. Much of this may be educational. You read something and say, "You know, I hate it when these guys do this," and you can read and think to yourself, well maybe this guy is right. And from time to time making adjustments on things you do in the air based on criticism of others. Therefore critical that the form can be very valuable.

Q: How do you enjoy covering sports in the Windy City?

Greenberg: I loved it. I love Chicago. It is a great city and is a great sports city. But it is much more than that. I liked living there, and the most significant that has happened, my wife spent there. I loved within sporting world. I was there at a great time. I mean covering sports in Chicago when Mike Ditka was coaching the Bears and Michael Jordan was playing for the Bulls. I covered the Bears when they were really good teams, and covered the Bulls when they won six championships. He was a great place to work and a great experience. There is no doubt that coverage of the teams in those years was the biggest reason I am able to do what they do for a living today.

Q: In your book, "Why Why my wife thinks I'm an idiot, "you say to get revenge on Jack McDowell is one of the highlights of his career. Can you describe a time when it is next to others of that time?

Greenberg: The possibility to send a Monday Night Football. That was very exciting. I would also say the opportunity to do some things that have been away from the norm, broadcasting from the Arena Football games. Although there was some small role, I had a good time to be part of the coverage of the spelling bee. That was something so totally different from what I'm used to doing. It's good when you do the same every day, for have the opportunity to do some things that are different and challenging in different ways.

Q: "Do not worry, kid. I never cry unless they know you're right. "

Greenberg: Dave Wannstedt screamed for something I had said in the air, and I was really sure that I was right. It was one of the first times that anyone who ever went through was very angry with me, and I cried in front of a bunch of other reporters. I felt very humiliated and very bad. In a way I [limping laughs], not literally, but figuratively, in the press room, and a Chicago Tribune writer said to me. I definitely gave a different feeling in the relationship, and not feel alone because he is the football coach and I am a journalist is, by definition, smarter than me, or better than I, or more important than me. I remember very vividly that day, and wrote about it in my book. It was a good day for me.

Q: If you had the opportunity to go back and change one thing in your life, what would it be?

Greenberg: Professionally speaking, if I could go back I think I have done a lot more growth. I had a great childhood, but I wish I had done more to prepare for the business when I was growing up. I wanted to do more practical. I wish I had written for the newspaper. I wish I had worked at the radio station. I would like to find ways to get more experience from the beginning. And the other thing I would say is that I wish I had more fun at times, when I was younger. I think I passed too much of my life worrying about whether or not they have a chance to do what I do. In my personal life I really do not regret anything. I mean, I have an amazing life and I'm very happy, so I honestly do not think that would change anything.

Q: You're a family man Greenberg. What important is the support of his family has been throughout his career?

Greenberg: Exceptionally. First, my parents were very supportive of my decision go to this very unusual and very uncertain business. That was great of them, because it certainly was not what was expected of me when I was a child and have always been very support of it. And then my wife. I've always said that anyone who wants to enter this business you have to marry someone who is willing to endure a lot of things. Long before that I had a program with my name on it, I was working every weekend night, and every holiday. Be willing to make such sacrifices this business. It is not a nine to five, five days a week type of work. The support of my wife has been invaluable. You have to be married to someone who understands the sacrifice and is willing to make the sacrifice because, otherwise, one of two things will have to go, either marriage or career. They can not coexist. So that way I would the support of my family has been invaluable.

Q: From politics to sports?

Greenberg: I had always thought I was going to be a journalist. I ended up getting sent to cover a story that I was not emotionally prepared to cover. I could not. And that was a time of true soul searching because I've always known I wanted to do, I wanted to Peter Jennings or be one of those guys. I wanted to be a television journalist seriously. And that experience I have learned that I can not do this. A counselor told me: "Well he likes sports, sports to follow religiously, and you know a lot about sports. Maybe you can do sports? "And the rest, as they say, is history. But that was certainly an unpleasant experience for me, and I have nothing but the utmost respect for people covering hard news.

Q What advice would you give to a current student in getting the interview that everyone wants?

Greenberg: The biggest mistake we have made in business journalism in this era of internet information is tip to be the first mass. The purpose of journalism has never been get a first story, has always been to get a story correct. And I think we have too many people who are too concerned about things running in the air or by land things to the press and do a hundred percent sure that they have done the homework expectations. I feel there is much less accountability in an era now where there are so many Internet things, you can connect to a website and think you're reading what should have been good news and only is being written by someone who has total control and has absolutely no responsibility to anyone. We are not being well served by the business media today from a journalistic standpoint. Y my advice to all people interested in business and are interested in making a real contribution to the company would learn the basics of journalism and use them, and not get caught up in some of the garbage that passes for journalism you see on cable television today.
