Baltimore Ravens 2010 Season Predictions
Baltimore Ravens enter the third year head coach John Harbaugh, and it seems as if this team is prepared to make a big time run at the Super Bowl. The Ravens won a wild-card spot for the second consecutive season after going 9-7, but after shocking the Patriots in the first round, the Ravens were no match for Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts, losing 20-3 in the divisional round. The Ravens did not make a ton of moves in the off season, but managed to improve on a lot of areas. Here's a look at what the Ravens bring both sides of the ball in 2010, as well as my prediction on where they finish the year in the AFC North.
Offense: Despite the improvement work of second year quarterback Joe Flacco, the Ravens still thus ended the year in the lower half of the NFL in passing. All figures to change in 2010 as the Ravens went out and signed Donte Stallworth and traded Pro Bowl wide receiver Anquan Boldin. Throw in the return of life Raven Derrick Mason and tight end Todd Heap and the Ravens to look the best passing attack in the history of the franchise.
Even with all the attention paid to the game to spend the offseason, the Ravens continue to be to hit the ball with Ray Rice and Willis McGahee. The two backs helped the Ravens end the fifth year in rushing with nearly 138 yards per game. Rice has become the go to guy averaging almost 128 yards per game from scrimmage, but McGahee still has a nose for the end zone, ending the year with a team best 14 touchdowns.
The line offensive is still very good and very young. The only player with more than three years of experience is the veteran center Matt Birk. Left tackle Jared Gaither has the talent to be a star in this league if he puts in time. If wrong Gaither look right tackle Michael Another attraction to take on the left. Marshall Yanda and Ben Grubbs form a very solid duo in the two guard spots.
Defense: Despite the departure of defensive coordinator Rex Ryan, the Ravens finished 2009 third in total defense, allowing just over 16 points per game. The starter not back just for the 2010 season is defensive end Dwan Edwards but the team addressed this issue by bringing Cory Redding, WHO figures to split time with Trevor Pryce. In the place across from the Ravens have one of the most dominant 3-4 in all NFL lineman Haloti Ngata, who only figures to improve after making its first appearance in the Pro Bowl last year. In the case of dealing Kelly Gregg's nose is unable to stay healthy in 2010, the Ravens drafted Alabama against Terrence Cody.
The Ravens continue to get a spectacular performance their supporters, and a big reason for this is that it has one of the best defensive players of all time in Ray Lewis holding one of the two points in its interior. It is difficult to believe that Lewis is entering his 15th season in the NFL after the way he did in 2009. The Ravens expect outside linebacker Terrell Suggs honors to his big contract this season, after putting together a very disappointing season in 2009. Jarret Johnson looks like the star next to the Ravens' outside linebacker, while undrafted Dannell Ellerbe has been a great find playing alongside Lewis in the middle.
The Ravens have a bit of a scare safety Ed Reed, as the Pro Bowl almost retired in the last offseason, but is back and figures to be a big part of the defense this season. The Ravens expect Fabian Washington will be ready to go by training camp and the team with Domonique Foxworth to form a solid from two in the corner. Dawan Landry returns as the other starting safety, while Chris Carr figures to play mostly in nickel packages.
Prediction – AFC North first: With the improvements made in this computer offensive, I think it will have what it takes to win the North in 2010, but they will get all they can handle the Bengals and Steelers.
